Gold bar sizes explained

Gold bars range from tiny sealed grams to institutional bricks. The right size is mainly a question of premium, resale unit and budget.

Gram bars

One, 2.5, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 gram bars make metric comparison straightforward. The smallest pieces usually have the highest percentage premiums.

One troy ounce

The standard private-investor bar size. It is easy to compare with one-ounce bullion coins and remains a manageable resale unit.

Five and ten ounces

Large enough to reduce packaging and fabrication cost per ounce, while still designed for private buyers. These sizes concentrate value into fewer pieces.

Kilogram bars

A kilogram contains about 32.15 troy ounces. It is a large private or professional format that demands careful dealer and storage planning.

Good Delivery bars

Institutional London Good Delivery bars are roughly 400 troy ounces, with permitted weight ranges under market standards. They are not normal retail products and should not be confused with fixed-weight decorative “400 oz” replicas.
