Gold premiums explained

Understand the premium over spot on gold bars and coins, including payment-method pricing, shipping and dealer buyback spreads.

The premium is the gap between the metal value and what you actually pay. It is the number that turns a beautiful product page into a comparable purchase.

Start with melt value

Multiply the live spot price by the product’s pure gold weight and quantity. A 22-karat one-ounce bullion coin still contains its stated one troy ounce of pure gold, even though its gross weight is higher.

Add every checkout cost

Wire, ACH, check, card and PayPal prices can differ. Add shipping, insurance and taxes where applicable. Compare the final total.

Calculate percentage and dollars

A $150 premium on a one-ounce product means something different at a $2,000 spot price than at a $4,000 spot price. Track both dollars and percentage.

Understand the resale spread

Your future buyer will quote a bid, not refund your original premium. Compare current buy prices for similar products when possible.

Do not confuse rarity with bullion value

Proofs, graded coins and low-mintage designs can trade on collector demand. That may be enjoyable, but it is a separate risk from the metal price.

Run the actual numbers

Use the calculator with the same spot timestamp and final checkout total for every option.

Where the affiliates fit

BulkGold.co uses multiple approved merchants so one dealer does not define the whole site. Silver Gold Bull is linked through CJ, Bullion.com through MaxBounty, and Kitco and Money Metals through AWIN. Product-level availability is favored where a verified deep link is available.
